Our furry friends are one step ahead of their human companions when it comes to sensing danger. According to research, dogs are able to do so because of their excellent smelling, acute hearing, and varied eyesight.

If your dog senses something wrong, he will try to alert you about the danger by using these signs:

#1 Barking, Growling & Whining

When your dog perceives danger or an intruder in its territory, he will try to alert you and get your attention by incessantly barking. Also, if your dog is growling or whining, it means he is afraid or threatened due to something. Therefore, whenever you hear your dog baking, growling, or whining unstoppably, make sure to check on him as there might seriously be something wrong.

Remember that your dog will bark or growl at new faces that might be familiar to you like regular visitors or the mailman. So, barking and growling aren’t always an obvious sign of arriving danger, but they simply can be something your dog doesn’t like.

#2 Running Around

This sign is more for inside than outside – meaning – that this sign indicates that something is wrong with your pup’s health. If your precious pooch is licking his paws and legs too much, it is a clear sign that you should take him to the vet and get him examined for possible diseases.

#3 Excessive Licking

This sign is more for inside than outside – meaning – that this sign indicates that something is wrong with your pup’s health. If your precious pooch is licking his paws and legs too much, it is a clear sign that you should take him to the vet and get him examined for possible diseases.

#4 Hiding

If your pup is too disturbed and scared by a prominent danger, it’s possible that they try to protect themselves by hiding. Therefore, if you see your dog hiding without any apparent reason, you should get up and check for reasons.

It’s also possible that your dog is scared of the new contender – another dog – in his territory and hence hiding, or it could be because of a seemingly dangerous person. In any case, you need to inspect everything and ensure you and your dog’s safety.

#5 Guarding

Sometimes your pet might take himself to fight the danger and start guarding his territory, that is, your house and everyone inside it. If you see your pet super alerted and in that guarding position, go out and check if it’s something serious.

#6 Scratching

If your dog is making those weird noises using his paws, it might be to alert you for what’s coming. It’s always a good idea to inspect the situation and check if something is seriously off or otherwise.

All these signs are about unnatural behaviors that your dog doesn’t show regularly. It’s possible that your dog barks at everyone passing through and you might not consider it dangerous, but you need to know the difference between barking at a stranger and barking at a danger. In short, you need to know your dog’s behavior thoroughly to interpret and understand his signs.
