5 Best Apartment Dog Breeds
As humans evolved from living in large spaces like forests to confined areas like apartments, their most loyal companions learned the same. Most dogs are comfortable living in apartments, but some adapt more effectively.
The 5 Best Apartment Dog Breeds are:
#1 Bichon Frise
These white-furred dogs are the center of attention in every household they live in. With a height between 9.5 to 11.5 inches and weighing 12 to 18 pounds, they are friendly with kids and other pets.
This breed needs brushing at least twice per week to keep the coat untangled. Haircuts are needed every four to six weeks to ensure proper growth of their fur. Since a Bichon Frise has a medium energy level, exercising for one hour per day is enough to tire them out.
For families with allergic individuals, these are ideal as they don’t shed much.
#2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
The only three things big about these dogs are their heart, name, and fur around their ears. These are family-friendly dogs with four different colored coats. They have a height between 12 to 13 inches and weigh between 13 to 18 pounds.
They have beautiful-looking feathered furs which need regular grooming to prevent tangles. This breed is not hypoallergenic as it sheds mildly.
They are easy to train and satisfied with daily exercise of 30 to 60 minutes.
#3 Pug
Perhaps the most recognizable breed due to their wrinkled face, you will mostly find them playing around the house. Though Pugs have a little temper, they are great with kids.
Pugs can do well with about an hour of exercise per day. However, be cautious in hot temperatures as this breed can’t cool itself down through panting due to small snouts. Pugs also don’t like cold weather.
It is easy to train this breed, and they require a minimal amount of grooming.
#4 Greyhound
The fastest dogs in the world are recognizable by their long legs and narrow bodies and heads. Being a large dog breed weighing 60 to 80 pounds and an average height of 28 inches, these large dogs don’t strike as the apartment type. However, they are very affectionate and friendly with kids too.
Though Greyhounds might seem the energetic type, a 30-minute walk plus a 30-minute playing session is enough to keep them stimulated and fit.
Greyhounds have a simple coat and need minimum grooming. However, they need a little more effort in training.
#5 Havanese
These double-coated dogs are hypoallergenic and will become an unbreakable part of your family. They weigh between 7 to 13 pounds and can grow up to 11 inches.
Havanese can have dual-colored coats, including hues of black, white, cream, silver, tan, red, sable, or fawn. Though regular grooming is necessary for this breed, they do not shed much and are hypoallergenic.
Exercise sessions lasting 30 minutes per day are ideal for this breed. They are also good learners and easy to train, except for housebreaking.
