5 Ways To Prepare Your Dog For Spring

As the weather changes and spring sunshine arrives in your yard, you should make some updates and prepare your pup for a new season. Don’t be afraid – it’s not too much work, just a few simple steps!

The 5 Ways To Prepare Your Dog For Spring Are:

#1 Dog Health

With the rising temperature, there is an increased risk of pests attacking your dog. Consult your vet for a checkup and vaccination, and start preventatives for fleas, ticks, worms, etc.

Keep yourself informed about symptoms of allergies and pest attacks in your dog so you can take measures timely.

#2 Grooming

Since winter is over, there is no need for large furs, and it’s time to say goodbye to them. You can visit a professional groomer and get your dog a haircut. Or, if you’re the DIY-type (and saving some monayyy!), baths and regular brushing will help in shedding.

Always look for bumps, lumps, and other irregularities on your dog’s skin, and talk to your vet about it if you find anything.

#3 Dog Supplies

With outdoor play increasing, ensure your dog has an up-to-date ID and microchip with your address and contact info. If your dog has shed too much and the old collar doesn’t fit anymore, get a smaller one.

Inspect your dog’s toys, crate, clothing, bedding, and other items for damage and repair and clean them if you can. Pack the winter clothing and other accessories your dog won’t need in spring in a safe place.

#4 Maintenance Work

It’s possible that the snow damaged your fence or uncovered nails. Review your yard for dangers that can hurt you or your dog and repair them. Look for things like a hole in the fence, pulled boards, tree branches, and chipped paint, and maintain them properly.

#5 Train Again

It’s okay to deviate from the routine in winter, given the harsh environment. However, since spring is here, it’s time to get back to your routine and re-train your dog. Start regular walking and exercise and revisit your dog’s obedience training and any other commands he’s missing.

If re-training is tough for your dog, consider signing up for a training class. You and your dog can meet new people and their dogs and enjoy spring to the extent!
